American Supply partners with Maison & Objet Designer of the Year

Ramy Fischler’s, RF Studio came to American Supply researching a specific material for The Agora showcase at Maison & Objet. The team chose our material “Billy” in the Mysterious Forest colorway out of our vast index of more than 10,000 material references.

The material is a fire resistant complex of PET over MDF wood. In this particular circumstance, it was laminated on boards of 3m by 0.6m, enabling the perfect flatness for the support, essential to preserve the iridescent and metallic qualities unique to the product. Billy was originally intended for the fashion industry and exists in a wide range of colors.

Miss Sunshine – L’ENSA Nantes et le Magic Mirror

Pour leur Workshop de Mai, 4 étudiantes de l’école d’architecture de Nantes ont été inspirées par notre Dazzling Mirror / Magic Mirror.

Elles ont conçu un dispositif capable “de capturer les ambiances changeantes du matériau en proposant au visiteur d’entrer au coeur de la matière.

L’installation permet d’appréhender la matière dans sa globalité, depuis l’extérieur ainsi que depuis l’intérieur de la capsule de film dichroïque. “

“Scénario

Le dispositif se présente sous la forme d’un cylindre de film dichroïque suspendu. Au loin, le spectateur perçoit une sorte de capsule un peu magique, un tube multicolore et lumineux, éclairé par le haut. Les reflets lumineux multicolores projetés au sol suscitent à la fois curiosité et contemplation. Une fois rapproché de l’objet, des indications du type « notice d’utilisation » ou « consignes de sécurité » invitent le spectateur à expérimenter le dispositif. Ce dernier doit donc suivre ces indications afin de pouvoir vivre l’expérience proposée. Les étapes de préparation participent à une mise en condition nécessaire, le spectateur se prépare à vivre une expérience inédite, à s’immerger dans un environnement jusque là encore inconnu. Il s’équipe d’une lampe frontale, d’un casque audio et éventuellement de lunettes. Ensuite, il peut rejoindre l’espace central matérialisé par la tache lumineuse au sol. Une fois en place, il est invité à allumer la lampe frontale puis la musique. La musique commence, la capsule descend. Elle enferme progressivement le spectateur dans un univers polychroïque flowerpower-disco-poético-psychédélique. Le spectateur devenu acteur est amené à vivre une expérience unique, sa perception musicale et spatiale est subjective. Sa réaction à la musique écoutée et ses mouvements participent à rendent son expérience singulière. L’expérience est également vécue depuis l’extérieur du dispositif, en effet les autres spectateurs assistent à la performance, les reflets lumineux jusque là statiques viennent s’animer au rythme du corps encapsulé.”
